Ladakh Ride Day 4 – Exploring Amritsar

Amritsar is also known for the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, and more. We already had plans to try paranthas & lassi along with exploring Amritsar.
Due to the tiredness from the last day’s ride, we woke up late. I went to do a quick checkup of my motorcycle, tightened a few bolts, and lubed the chain. It was very hot outside, so we decided to either walk or take local transport for sightseeing. We went to a local paratha shop near Bawa Kulcha, ordered Kulcha, Alu Paratha, and Lassi. I must say it cost us more than usual, but worth every penny for its taste and quality.
Later, we headed out to Jallianwala Bagh next; it was a 5-minute walk. This place was crowded and free for all (no entry tickets). Inside, we saw the famous spot where one of the biggest massacres happened, hundreds of people were killed as per Colonel Reginald Dyer’s instruction. Official British Indian sources gave a figure of 379 identified dead, with approximately 1,100 wounded (Source: Jallianwala Bagh Massacre). We also saw Amar Jyoti, the memorial, bullet marks, martyrs’ well, and the museum. I was getting goosebumps while watching Bullet Marks.

Just came out of the Jallianwala Bagh and several auto drivers/agents asked for Wagah border booking, we bargained and booked two seats of a shared auto, Rs. 100 per person.
We came back to the hotel, freshened up, and again went to the auto stand near Jallianwala Bagh. It was chaos! Before the Wagah border, we stopped at a toll plaza, and the driver asked us to buy water if needed, as it would be costlier near the Wagah border.
Finally, we reached the Auto stand, approximately 1 KM from the border, where we needed to walk and saw both Indian and Pakistani flags in a single frame. There are multiple shops with a locker facility. We have deposited our small bag there for some Rs. 30. We walked to the border, which was so clean and properly organized.
After passing the security check (separate for males and females), we had to move towards the stadium area, just before the border.
“Beating the Retreat” ceremony started as per schedule; no one should miss this ceremony. We felt, no one could ever show this much respect to our national flag.

Returning from the Wagah border was pathetic, like the auto we came in left behind us. We had to wait for a long time and finally came to the same auto stand near Jallianwala Bagh. We shopped for some small keychains as souvenirs, had our dinner, and headed to the Golden Temple.
There is one stall where we can keep our shoes, those guys take all the shoes, keep those in the shelves, and return while collecting, so nice of them.
Due to some rituals, we did not enter the main temple but the premises. It was so nice and clean inside.
Finally, we reached the hotel, packed a few items of luggage, put all electronics on charge, and crashed into bed. This time we did not set an alarm and decided to rest before we leave tomorrow.
